Top 5 Post-Production Tips For Effective Video Content

Post-production is the most expensive stage of any film production, it is also one of the most crucial stages of the film creation process. During this stage, it is very important that you get everything right, make your video more aesthetic by correctly editing the story, edits the video, executing perfect color grading, and set matching sound effects. If you get all these steps right, your final content will be much more attractive and appealing. But get it wrong, and your final video will look unappealing and cheap, so it is essential that you don’t make any mistakes during these steps.

We are going to explore five professional post-production tips that will give your brand video a distinct advantage.

1# Organize Footage

This is the first post-production process that you need to complete in order to simplify the editing process of your video. Shortlist all of the clips that you want to add to your video, and categorize them. Basically, you should choose shots that go well with the story of your video. If you have an editor to complete the edit, show him all of the shots and ask for feedback and notes to make the editing process easier.

2# Lock Shots in Place

Once you shortlist the clips that you want to use in your edit. Now it’s time to lock all the shots in the right place, at this point, your videos are ready for applying sound and visual effects. Make sure that you provide a much lower mock-up quality of the visual effects shots. Mock-up will say where some clips need partial or complete VFX. This will help your editing team to modify the visual and sound effects. Do this process of mocking-up in the picture lock stage or you might need to prepare to re-work later.

3# Add Visual Effects

Most brands use some kind of visual effects in their videos, they may not look important but they are crucial in creating effective video content. If you have already mapped out the visual effects, it will not be a difficult process for the editors, since they know where to put visual effects. But keep in mind that you don’t need to use visual effects just because the competitors are using them. If visual effects add efficiency to the story telling add them unless there is no use for it.

4# Sound Mixing

Since you already have a picture lock, now it is time to mix the sounds. A video editor would normally edit different audio tracks for the clip, they edit it on a sound mixing or video editing software. First editors should match the dialogue sounds of the scene where the actors are speaking. Second, some parts of the video may need voice-overs. Third, remove all the unnecessary background noise of the clips. Remember that the quality of the sound and video are equally important for effective video content.

5# Color Correction

When the editing of your entire video is almost complete, sounds are put in place, visual effects are added, every single factor of your final video should add up. This means your video should match the theme or mood of the message. For instance, if your video is about advertising energy drinks, the video must look bright and feel full of energy. This is where color corrections can make or break your video. Through color correction you can also fix lighting errors, take care of white balance, or correct overexposure.
